Our Identity In Christ

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  ~ Ephesians 1:3

Salt + Light `Ohana,

Knowing your identity in Christ will change the way you live.  It will dictate your destiny.  A case of mistaken identity can be perilous.  Do you know how God sees you?  Join us this Sunday at 9am to find out!

In Christ,

The Alpha Course (with Pastor Max)

We would like to invite you to come and join us for an online Alpha Course!  Alpha is an opportunity to have conversations about God and faith.  We will learn and talk about questions that we all ask… “Who is Jesus?  Is there evidence for faith?  How to know God’s Will?”  Everyone is welcome!  The course will be online.

Wednesdays, 6:00pm – 7:15pm

September 30th – December 9th (11 weeks)

"You Will Receive Power..."

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”    Matthew 28:18-20

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”   Acts 1:8

Salt + Light `Ohana,

Jesus did not choose super-human disciples who were naturally gifted to carry out the Great Commission.  Instead, he chose common, everyday people (like you and me) and then he empowered them with the Holy Spirit to go and be His witnesses!

Join us this Sunday at 9:00am to find out how God is calling you to join Jesus on His mission and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to go and make disciples of all nations!

Go in His power,

Motivation for Ministry

Salt + Light `Ohana,

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Our motivation to serve the Lord and share the Good News of Jesus can’t come from our feelings or fear.  It comes from the love of Christ.  From God to us!  If we have it backwards, we will experience burnout, and will surely give up when the tough times arise.  Join us this Sunday to find out what the Bible says about our motivation for ministry!

Your Fellow Ambassador for Jesus,

Pastor Max

In Our Community

Hygiene Packs Donated
to Saint Elizabeth Episcopal Church

unnamed-5.jpg
unnamed-6.jpg

During this difficult time, there are many people who are going through a tough financial situation.  A few months ago, we put together 400 hygiene packs, filled with soaps, shampoos and shaving kits and were looking for a way to make the best use of them.  On Wednesday, we were able to give them to Saint Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Kalihi, as they are doing such great work to help reach out to those who are in need.

If you would like to help make food bags, Saint Elizabeth could always use the help.  They give out food bags to all who come on a daily basis.  Please contact us by phone or email and we will give you more specifics!

Lunches Brought to Staff and Teachers at Waikiki School

unnamed-7.jpg

Another way that Salt + Light was able to help bless our community recently was to take bento lunches to the staff and teachers at Waikiki School.  This past Friday, we wanted to let the teachers and staff, who are working so hard, know that God cares about them and we are here to support them even though we can’t meet at the school right now.

Let’s continue to pray for the teachers and students during this time!

The God of All Comfort

Salt + Light Ohana,

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

When we go through trouble in life, we can be tempted to believe that we are all alone and no one is there who can identify with, or understand us.  But we have a Father in heaven who is there for us and understands everything we are going through.  He is full of compassion and comfort and doesn’t hold back!  We can praise God in the midst of life’s trials, and even overflow with compassion and comfort for others because of Jesus!  Join us this Sunday, to find out how we overflow with God’s comfort and encourage others!

In Jesus,

Pastor Max

Embracing Suffering

Salt + Light Ohana,

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves
and take up their cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it,
but whoever loses their life for me will save it.”
Luke 9:23-24

Following Jesus isn’t easy.  It requires living by faith, and not our fears, or our feelings.  Putting God above all, and dying to ourselves will assuredly lead us to suffering.  Join us this Sunday at 9am for our online service as Jim Miyashiro teaches from God’s Word how to embrace suffering and in doing so, grow closer to Christ!

Jesus lead on,

Pastor Max

Salt + Light Hawaii Church-Wide Fast
August 19th and 26th (two Wednesdays)

There are certain critical times when Jesus calls His Church to PRAY and FAST.  And, as the COVID-19 virus wreaks havoc in our state, nation and across the globe… this is one of those times!

Join the fast!  Starting next Wednesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 26, Salt + Light Hawaii will be doing a church-wide fast.  Please ask God about fasting for these two Wednesdays as we humble ourselves and pray God’s kingdom come, and His will be done.  Let’s pray God would hear our prayers and come and heal our land!

What should you fast from?  Please pray and ask the Lord what to fast.  Fasting can include food, or tv, social media, coffee, or whatever God calls you to give up.  Whatever it is, please use that time you would have been doing that activity, to instead pray and seek God.  (If you are going to fast from food, please make sure that you and your family are healthy and able to fast without health complications.)

What should we pray for?  Pray for God to heal our nation and world.  Pray God would silence the enemy and turn hearts towards Him.  Pray for the enemy to be silenced.  Pray for a cure to COVID-19.  Pray for a great revival for many to know JESUS CHRIST!

Let us know!  Please let our S+L Prayer Team know you are fasting and praying, so we can be praying for you during this time.  Please contact Amy Fong at: amyf808kapahulu@gmail.com.

Knowing God's Will

Salt + Light Ohana,

“How can I know God’s will for my life?” That is a question that many people ask me as a pastor. Good thing God gives us the answer in Scripture! Join us this Sunday at 9:00am for our online worship service to find out what God has planned for those in Christ!

Living for Jesus,

Pastor Max

waterbaptism.jpg

Have you been water baptized?  Water baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ and is symbolic of our new spiritual birth in Him.  We are commanded in Scripture to be baptized as soon as we believe.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  - Matthew 28:18-20

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."  - Acts 2:38

If you and your ohana would like to be water baptized, please contact Salt + Light Hawaii by email at info@saltandlighthawaii.org or call 808-209-5602.

Returning to In-Person Services Survey Results

Thank you for participating in the survey!  Here’s a quick summary of the results that caught my attention…

  • 36% of respondents are "ready to return" to in-person services, with another 16% open to returning w/ some caveats.  40% would prefer to continue online services.

  • 33% of the responses received to the final question ("How can S+L best help you during these difficult times?") indicated "I need to talk to someone I can trust".  Regardless of degree of physical distancing, the need for connection remains strong.

Our church is continuing to review and pray through the results of the survey, so that we can be responsive to what the Lord is saying in all of it.  Right now, we will continue meeting online for our Sunday Worship Service, with Communion and Discussion Groups to follow.  We are also adding a once a month in-person gathering in the park, as we did for our One Year Anniversary.  More details to come soon.  We also hope that our church will continue to meet in small groups throughout the week so that we can support and encourage one another in this time.

Not Ashamed of the Gospel

Salt + Light `Ohana,

In the book of Romans, Paul wrote to the Church in Rome, who faced many of the same issues we face today.  Our society is just as morally corrupt and ungodly as the Romans were.  What is the answer to society’s problems?  What is the answer to our personal problems?  The answer is the Gospel.  The Gospel has the power to change us and our surrounding culture, and like Paul, we are called to not be ashamed, but continue to boldly proclaim Good News of Jesus!

In His love and grace,

Pastor Max

THANK YOU for joining us at our
One Year Anniversary Celebration!

Thank you for joining us last Sunday to celebrate our One-Year Anniversary Celebration!  What a blessing it was to see one another again as we worshipped Jesus and celebrated Him together in-person for the first time in four months!  And thank you to all of you who joined in the online livestream!

Thank you to all who also went and dropped off “Bags of Hope” to the surrounding neighbors!  As we enter year two, we will continue to be salt and light in our community, bringing the Good News of Christ to all during this difficult time!

Let's Celebrate!

SLoneyear.jpeg

Salt + Light `Ohana,

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him…  “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.  Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.  For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’  So they began to celebrate.

Luke 15:21, 22-24

This Sunday, we will celebrate our one-year anniversary at Salt + Light Hawaii!  What a joyous occasion, as we look back at what God has done, and we look forward to all that He will do in the upcoming year together!  Our Heavenly Father, and all of heaven celebrates when even one person comes to know and follow Jesus, and I desire that our church gains God’s heart for His lost sons and daughters to come home.  Join us this Sunday in person, or for our online livestream, as we learn more about how to welcome others back home…

Celebrating with you in the name of Jesus!

Pastor Max
