Going through the bible...starting with Exodus

Salt + Light Ohana,

This Sunday, we begin preaching through the Bible, starting in the book of Exodus. This is the spot in the Bible that matches up with our daily Bible reading plan called Bible In One Year. (You can learn more about BiOY below.) In Exodus, we will learn about the life of Moses, how he led God’s people and taught us some great lessons about spending time with God. We don’t want to go from spiritual highs to to lows, but want to remain consistent in our spiritual walk. Our Father is seeking after those who worship Him in Spirit and truth… with His help, we will be able to journey in and with Jesus anytime and anywhere! So that everyone will come to know the Good News!

Learning to live In His Presence,

Pastor Max

We are “Kingdom Builders”

Psalm 133:1-3

How good and pleasant it is    when God’s people live together in unity!

It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

Salt + Light Ohana,

King David knew the importance of God’s people living in unity.  He experienced much turmoil and dissention within his own family and kingdom, and it cost him dearly.  At Salt and Light, we want to work towards being united in Christ within our church family, as well as the kingdom of God!  We are “Kingdom Builders” who strive for unity within the greater Church in our community. How do we get there? Come and join us this Sunday!

One Spirit, One Lord, One Father,

Pastor Max

Our church is more than just Sunday meetings...

Salt + Light Ohana,

Our church isn’t just our family that meets on Sundays, but everyone in our community too!  We want to be a church that develops relationships with those in our community and ministers to their needs in the name of Jesus.  It is so important that we take the Good News of Jesus out to those who need His message of hope. The past few weeks we have had the opportunity to do just that.  Thank you for being available and for being so generous. We were able to help two families that lost their homes in the recent Diamond Head tragedy. Let’s continue to pray for all those families affected and continue to “go” to them in their time of need.

This week, we will be talking about “Creating a Disciple Making Culture” at Salt + Light.  Our church is a church of disciples of Jesus who make disciples, who make disciples. We want to reach generations of people and families with the gospel!  Our Heavenly Father invites us into this life of purpose and meaning. Invite a friend to come with you!

Following Him,

Pastor Max

Comfort for Diamond Head

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Aloha Salt + Light Ohana!

In light of the recent and tragic events that took place in our Diamond Head community, this Sunday, January 26th, we will be having a special worship service to pray for God’s comfort and peace in the lives of our neighbors and our neighborhood.  Let’s pray and believe God will come and heal hearts!

As we pray for and come alongside our neighbors in this trying time, we also want to help meet needs with God’s resources.  Many have been asking how they can help the families affected…

This Sunday, our church will also be taking up a special love offering to help two Waikiki School families.  One family has five children, and they were all at church when they heard the terrible news.  The other family has one child, and the mother was one of the stabbing victims.  (She was recently released from the hospital and is recovering.)  Both families lost their homes and all their belongings in the fire.

If you would like to give towards the special love offering this Sunday to help these two families, you can write a check to: Salt + Light Hawaii (memo line: For Waikiki School Families).

Just last week, we were asking God to show us how to love our neighborhood when the terrible tragedy unfolded… I believe God has strategically located us for such a time as this.

Let’s continue to love God and our neighbors this Sunday, by praying and giving.

Church, thank you for praying.  Thank you for continuing to follow Jesus out into our community, to those who so desperately need His hope and help at this time.

Following Him,

Pastor Max

How to be the church

Aloha Salt + Light `Ohana!

Have you ever asked yourself, “How can I bring the Good News of Jesus to those around me?” Jesus called us to “go and make disciples of all nations…” so how do we actually do that?  There are different ways to help fulfill Christ’s Great Commission, but I’ve found the most authentic and effective way to do so, is by not separating our faith from the other areas of our lives such as our work, our family, or our friends.  Unfortunately, many times that’s exactly what we do.

This Sunday, we will be talking about Lifestyle Evangelism.  We are all learning what it looks like not just go to church, but to be the church!   We are learning to follow God in the power of the Holy Spirit 24-7-365 (this year is a Leap Year, so… 24-7-366!)  Let’s get ready to be equipped to be “salt and light” in the lives of our co-workers, family and friends!

I also want to let you that we are having some baby dedications this week!  The Okimotos, Nakamuras and Liles `ohanas (and maybe a few more families!) will be having their little ones dedicated to the Lord!  Please come with a lei if you would like to show your aloha for them.

In Christ,

Pastor Max

Sunday Testimony: Janice Olmstead

Aloha Salt + Light Ohana!

This Sunday, we will be talking about God’s desire for us to have healthy families.  God has a plan, not just for ourselves, but for our entire family! He wants us to be united together in Christ, and experience the blessings of a healthy spiritual, emotional and physical life!

Janice Olmstead will be sharing her testimony.  Her story is a story of God’s amazing love for her and her family, as they have continued to trust God every step of the way!  You will be inspired and encouraged!

Please invite a friend, or a family member so they can come and hear the Good News of Jesus and experience His salvation and health in their families as well!

Trusting Him,
Pastor Max

Happy New Year from Salt+Light Hawaii

Aloha Salt + Light Ohana,

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  2 Corinthians 5:17

With the start of the New Year, we have the wonderful opportunity to start new habits and a new life.  We like to make New Year’s Resolutions, and that’s great, go for it!  This year, above all other secondary goals, resolve to keep your relationship with God your most important priority.

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Seek after what’s most important to God, and He will help you prioritize your life.

Put in the big rocks first!  Don’t fill your time and life with other things, and forget about the main things!  Put into daily practice some “big rocks” such as Prayer and Bible reading…

Prayer is your connection to God.  It is a two-way conversation.  You talk to God and you listen to God talk to you.  Our Heavenly Father loves to spend time in conversation with you above all else!  Enjoy your time in prayer each day, and throughout the day.  Another important spiritual discipline is Bible Reading.  At our church, we use the Bible In One Year Reading Plan, which helps us read through the entire Bible in, you guessed it… one year!  Try it out this New Year, and you will see your relationship with God grow like never before!

Don’t be “too busy” to seek after His Kingdom and His righteousness!  When we learn to put the big rocks in our lives first, we will see all our other resolutions start to fall into place and work out in our lives.  Try it the other way around, and you will end up disappointed and disillusioned, but in Christ, we are new creations, “old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Blessings in Jesus in 2020,

Pastor Max

New Location!

Starting on Sunday, December 1st, we will be meeting at our new Worship Service location, Waikiki School!

We have prayed over the Diamond Head area for many months, and the Lord's answer and timing is always perfect! God has provided a great school and community to meet at, and to serve! There are many teachers, staff, students, families and neighbors at and around Waikiki School to love and bless! We are honored to come as listeners and learners in the community and be led by the Holy Spirit to meet needs as they are revealed. We pray, by God's power and grace, we will be able to help bring Jesus, the Light and Hope of the world into the lives of many in East Oahu and Waikiki!

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."  - Matthew 5:13-16

Shine for Him!

Pastor Max
